I Bring Little Boy Out of a Coma With Nothing But My Presence [Mr. T]

Mr. T doesn’t need no science or no brain pressure reliever. Mr. T can bring children out of comas by just going to their rooms. See exhibit T, a boy who was unlucky enough to fall into a coma some time in the mid-1980s. All I had to do is go to his hotel room, say some words, close the curtains, and by the time I was walking out of the hospital the kid was out of his coma! How did they know this kid was a fan of Mr. Me? Because whenever my name came up, his arm twitched! That’s how! What did you think? Don’t ask questions you already know the answer to. I’m Mr. T, and I bring kids out of comas! *Grunt* [Yahoo]

HPI’s G-Dog sniffs out your human wreckage

Filed under:

HPI Japan just conjured up GR-001’s new best friend: the G-Dog. The DIY, four-legged robot with a taste for jugulars and what appears to be a sword for a tail stands just 5.3-inches tall and features the same control unit and sensors of his bipedal buddy. Presumably, G-Dog will only respond to street-wize greetings of “Whut up Gee?” and “‘Sup Dawg?” at which point he’ll lubricate his turf (aka, your carpet). G-Dog is expected to terrorize Japan sometime in July for around $1,000. Backside front, after the break.

Colorware gets ahold of Guitar Hero axes — we’re in love

Filed under:

If you thought a Colorware’d DS Lite was the new heat, get a load of this. The company famous for making gadgetry of all kinds look its best has turned its talents on the iconic Guitar Hero axe, and we must say, we’re infatuated. Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 thrashers are all invited, and while users can join the revolution for as little as $198 (that includes the title and a painted instrument), current slingers can send their guitar in and get it colorized for as little as $99. For those on a budget, we strongly recommend not clicking the links below. Those completely unafraid of purging their wallet on impulse buys can go ahead.

[Thanks, Adam]

Sega disolves Korean subsidiary, nixing $330m Yokohama arcade complex

Filed under:

Aside from planning to axe 400 jobs as part of Sega Sammy’s most recent “turnaround efforts,” the outfit will also be closing the doors to its Korean subsidiary. Currently, Sega Korea is “handling the domestic distribution and sales of video game software, as well as the operation / sales of amusement facilities and machines,” and reportedly, the closure will be executed in the name of “global business optimization.” As it stands, there’s no set date for the branch’s dissolution, but just in case your smile wasn’t turned upside-down already, the company also stated that it would discontinue the development of a ginormous $330m arcade complex slated for construction in Yokohama, Japan — if you couldn’t guess, that one’s being shuttered so the firm can “focus its efforts on its core business to improve its performance” in short order. Seriously though, what the hell kind of company would spend $330m on arcade, anyway?

Lightning Review: VholdR Wearable Sport Camcorder [Lightning Review]

In honor of the upcoming Tahoe reader meetup on April 5th at Alpine Meadows, I’m going to be doing end of season reviews of some outdoor gadgetry that’s been floating around the cabin.
The Gadget: A camera meant for outdoor junkies. Has laser pointers for aiming the cam, helmet, handlebar, and goggle mounts, and a waterproofed case. Records to 640 x 480 quality MPEG-4 video in decent quality. 50 minutes per GB. Aluminum and fiberglass case.

The Performance: Two hours of battery life. Doesn’t feel like its top quality in build. Slightly grainy, but videos are perfectly acceptable. (That’s a link to the company’s vids, which are representative, but also a lot more interesting than my bunny hops. Charges by USB. For $350, I wish it came with a MicroSD card. Thumbs up. [Guest editor’s note: What’s thumbs up? What do you mean thumbs up, sucker? Who is going to wear that thing on his head, you fool? Only fools like you and Murdoch, that’s who! I ain’t getting that thing on my head!]

Pleo finally learns to sit with Life OS 1.1

Filed under:

Although Pleo just got upgraded to v1.0.2 earlier this month, UGOBE is taking the Life OS to 1.1 and adding a laundry list of features to boot. Initially available for install only through an SD card (download via USB should hit within a few weeks), the update enables your favorite dino pet to sit, sing a variety of melodies, call for attention, get sick (coughing / sneezing) and change attitudes based on how much attention it gets. As these things always go, there’s also the promise of a few unannounced inclusions (”strange habits,” as it were), and it should be noted that previous downloads — Holiday, Love-struck, MySkit, Yapt, etc. — will need to eventually be re-downloaded in new versions to be compatible with the Life OS 1.1 update. Give the read link some attention to check out the changes, and fire up the download while you’re over there.

Real-time 3D Maps For Soldiers

Real-time 3D Maps For Soldiers

Soldiers could, in the near future, bring up a detailed 3D map of the surrounding area at will if General Dynamics UK actually manage to pull off their project successfully. This “near real-time” 3D map system uses a wide range of technologies to make it possible, including LIDAR, thermal imaging and x-ray backscatter techniques in order to display buildings, streets as well as the objects and people living inside. Now that’s what I call technology - no idea just how much processing power is required to churn all this information, but it will definitely come in handy where hostage situations are concerned.

Seven Body Signs and Pains You Shouldn’t Ignore [Health]

pain.pngThere are those who fear impending death at the slightest change in nasal congestion, and then there are those who constantly push abnormal aches and pains aside, hoping they’ll just go away. If you identify with the latter group, health web site WebMD rounds up seven pains you should not ignore, no matter how busy your schedule. For example:

Pain or Discomfort in the Chest, Throat, Jaw, Shoulder, Arm, or Abdomen: Chest pain could be pneumonia or a heart attack. But be aware that heart conditions typically appear as discomfort, not pain. “Don’t wait for pain,” says cardiologist Jerome Cohen, MD. “Heart patients talk about pressure. They’ll clench their fist and put it over their chest or say it’s like an elephant sitting on their chest.”

The remaining pains you shouldn’t ignore include everything from burning feet and calf pain to abdominal and back pain. At each point, the article highlights what kind of pains in each area should be considered out of the ordinary, pointing out what they could indicate and why you shouldn’t ignore it. If you are, or someone you know is an ignore-it-and-it’ll-go-away type who’s suffered consequences like those mentioned in the article, let’s hear your experience in the comments.
